At an early age, I can remember having a great love for music. My earliest memory was of my mom playing her Al Green records on Saturday morning as we were cleaning the house. I can remember going to teen dances and watching the DJ and being totally mesmerized, “I want to learn how to DJ.” In my later teenage years, I would put the radio in the window to get the clearest signal I could in order to record the mixes on WAIL 105 FM at the club “Famous” in New Orleans. Those nights lit a desire within me and I knew one day I had to purchase some turntables and learn how to DJ.
My dream became a reality in 1990 in Adana Turkey at Incirlik Air Base while I was serving in the United States Air Force. The DJ at the club was getting ready to change duty stations and told me if I got my equipment, he would help me get the DJ job at the Club on base. So I sent money with a friend going on a medical appointment in Germany to purchase me two 1200 Technics Turntables, I already had a mixer and some records as I collected music over the years for the day I would actually have an opportunity to DJ. As they say “the rest is history.” Not only did I become the DJ at the club on base but I became THE DJ for those off base as well. While still serving in Turkey & showcasing my skills in the area, I had the privilege of being flown to Northern Iraq during Desert Storm to DJ for the Troops on the 4th of July.
After leaving Turkey in 1992, I continued to DJ at my next duty station at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX. While serving in Wichita Falls, I became the Non Commissioned Officers Club DJ and the Airman’s Club DJ. I was blessed to be able to DJ events, host comedy shows, have a radio show (WJKX 1025) along the way at my duty stations throughout the rest of my Air Force Career. In 2005 I decided to retire from the USAF and move to Dallas, TX. It was a slow process getting into the DJ Industry in the Metroplex but I was determined that my name & talent would be showcased throughout the metroplex & surrounding areas. As fate would have it, I met a DJ (Jeff Warren) who gave me an oppurtnity to work with him doing weddings. Being that I had no desire to get into the club scene at this point in my life, weddings seemed like the way I wanted to go. Eventually I started my own company which afforded me the opportunity to start showcasing my talent at weddings and other various events. I have been blessed immensely these last 15 years of doing various types of wedding and events in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex as well as throughout the United States. There is a saying that says, “if you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life.” Well, I can say I’ve worked many days in my life but in 2022 I had the privilege of retiring from my job and now becoming A FULL TIME DJ. Each morning when I open my eyes to a brand new day, I can truly say I FINALLY get to do what I love every day.
